Herne Bay Sailing Club member David Hogben has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday honours list 2019.

The award is for services to the community of Herne Bay. His nomination is in part on the strength of his contribution to developing sailing opportunities locally, and his charitable work in London.

David has been instrumental is creating 1,300 extra opportunities at Herne Bay Sailing Club.

He raised more than £100,000 for boats, wetsuits and storage facilities to encourage new people to join.

Working with Herne Bay Pact committee, youth groups, schools and Disability Sailing, David has spent the last nine years getting people involved in the sport.

Herne Bay SC is an RYA Approved Training Centre. It’s a family friendly club and enjoys some of the best sailing waters on the North Kent coast. It has members of all ages and abilities, and anyone interested in sailing with us can be sure of receiving plenty of help and encouragement.
