Hi everyone,
RYA Club Membership Census Survey – thank you
Firstly, I would very much like to thank all the clubs that have completed the annual membership census. I know it takes time to complete, but I am grateful for your support – and this year, yet again, the process has proven to yield some really useful information. I have already been in touch with several clubs to learn more about why their membership is trending in the way it is, and this will hopefully provide some useful insight that we can share through the delivery of workshops and sessions over the coming months. An initial look at the data, which is yet to be refined, would suggest a slight downward trend in club membership across the region, this is coming off the back of the stay-cation boom, so perhaps not unexpected. However, as always, there are a number of clubs that have seen growth, in fact 17 clubs have seen growth of 10% or more from last year. I know membership is only part of the story, so please do get in touch and let me know how your club is fairing and what’s working for you.
RYA East Regional Courses
We have recently advertised several RYA East regional courses for instructors. The first is a Dinghy Instructor Course taking place in October (23-27th) at Grafham. Heavily subsidised, this course is aimed at volunteers from across the region and will cost just £150 (the pre-assessment is scheduled for 7th October). In addition, our training programme includes two Senior Instructor Preparation Days, a great opportunity to learn more about the role, what the course entails and how to prepare. These are ideal for Dinghy Instructors looking to learn more about being an SI. We have also released the dates for the Senior Instructor Course itself, this will take place in March next year. Club visits
I would like to say thank you to those clubs that I have met with over the past few weeks; it’s been very rewarding to travel around the region, observe some excellent activity and learn about all the good work that is going on. These visits also provide an opportunity for me to share ideas and help clubs understand the support that is available to them. Please do get in touch if you’d like to arrange a visit: Robbie.bell@rya.org.uk
RYA Connected
Finally, I’d like to mention RYA Connected, which is taking place on the 25th November. This is a face-to-face event that replaces the Affiliated Club Conference; the day is now open to clubs, class associations, Sailability groups and those from club based training centres. The aim is to provide a day of informative sessions that range from short presentations to longer forums and workshops; there will be guest speakers, including the RYA’s CEO Sarah Sutcliffe. Booking opens very soon, but for now please SAVE THE DATE.
