RYA Cymru Wales is looking forward to hosting its premier event of the year for clubs, training centres and instructors – The Big Weekend!

If you’re involved in running your club or centre or supporting its activities, whether as a paid member of staff or as a volunteer – we would love you to join us at Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre over the weekend of 14-15 October 2023.

Society is changing and so our theme will be to explore the future of our sport/s, experiment with new ideas, and equip ourselves going forward with new knowledge and qualifications to take away.

Alongside essential updates for all, this will be a hands-on conference like no other, with some fantastic opportunities to be inspired and try new things. Depending on which sessions you choose, remember to bring your coat and/or your sailing kit!

You might like to find out how outdoor adventure skills can enhance your venue offer;  have a go at winging and SUPing; re-imagine club racing with a ‘takeover’ at Port Dinorwic; try keelboat racing or asymmetric boats; hone your safety boat skills; or join sessions for aspiring trainers.

Here are the top six reasons we think The Big Weekend is one you won’t want to miss:

  • Create your own timetable to suit your interests!

  • Have your say! Hear about our draft 5-year strategy for 2024-2029 and share your views

  • Tap into RYA expertise and meet your Home Country team
  • Connect with like-minded people from other clubs and centres
  • Claim back travel costs with our Green Scheme if you’re car sharing or using public transport
  • Find out about our all-new RYA Cymru Wales Impact Awards – who will you nominate?

RYA Cymru CEO James Stuart adds: “The Big Weekend comes at a key moment in time as we set ourselves up for the future – I’m looking forward to all of us sharing that journey and to welcoming everyone to Plas Menai.”

Sign up for one or both days – thanks to Sport Wales, tickets are just £25 a day or £50 for the weekend, with a discount for under-26s. Tickets include lunch plus a Saturday evening dinner for weekend delegates, and Plas Menai has a special accommodation rate.
