RDO East Blog October 2023

Hi everyone,

Regional Courses

I really enjoyed spending last weekend out on the water, the weather was fantastic at Grafham with a decent breeze and high temperatures, what’s not to like. On Saturday I was undertaking a pre-entry assessment for candidates hoping to attend the Dinghy instructor course in half term, I’m pleased to say they all passed. After the course, hopefully a number of clubs and centres from across the region will benefit from new enthusiastic instructors. On Sunday, with the aid of fellow trainers, we delivered a Senior Instructor (SI) Preparation Day. The aim of the day was for experienced instructors to learn more about the role of SI, what the course involves and how to prepare for becoming an SI. It was really good to have several people looking to make the next step, develop their skills and take on the responsibility of managing instructors on the water. Our next SI prep-day is on the 3rd February, find out more HERE. Our next Dinghy Senior Instructor course will take place in March, this is a 4 day course delivered over two consecutive weekends. For more information and details of how to apply please contact jen.miller@rya.org.uk Senior Instructors are fundamental to the delivery of dinghy and keelboat RYA training activity, if you’d like to learn more about the role, or how we can support you or your training centre with instructor development, please get in touch.

RYA Connected

Next month will see the delivery of our first RYA Connected event, taking place on Saturday 25 November at the Royal Hospital School, Ipswich. I am really pleased that we can bring together a wide audience to share, learn and grow together. There will be plenty of opportunities to engage with volunteers representing affiliates from across the region, as well as being able to participate in several workshops, presentations and forums. In addition, there will be significant representation from RYA staff, ranging from members of our legal team through to our CEO Sarah Sutcliffe. It’s free to attend and includes lunch and refreshments. You can find out more and book here https://www.rya.org.uk/events/connected

RYA East Cruising Conference

The next day, we have our Cruising Conference taking place on 26 November. This event is aimed at the cruising fraternity from across the region; the aim is to provide an opportunity for the cruising community to come together, engage with one another and hear from subject experts on a range of topics. RYA Members can access a discounted ticket at just £25 for the day, including lunch and refreshments, find out more here: https://www.rya.org.uk/eventlisting/015est-cruising-conference

Catch ups over the winter

Finally, I am in the process of putting together a series of opportunities to connect over the winter, this will include 1:1 meetings with clubs, please do get in touch if you’d like to catch up, either online or face to face, it will be good to hear from you.
