The recent Annual General Meeting of British Marine Scotland saw significant board membership changes announced.

Since 2017, Simon Limb and Martin Latimer have skilfully navigated the roles of Joint Chairmen, building on their prior experiences as Chair and Vice Chair for many years. Their tenure saw substantial progress and recognition for the marine sector in Scotland. However, this month’s AGM brought a turning point, with both leaders announcing that they would not be standing for re-election to our board.

Stepping into these influential roles are Sarah Kennedy of Fort William Marina and Shoreline Community Interest Company, and Patrick Flockhart from Eyemouth Marine Ltd, assuming the positions of Chair and Vice Chair, respectively. Their arrival heralds a new chapter of leadership for British Marine Scotland.

In recognition of their outstanding contribution to British Marine and British Marine Scotland, the board of British Marine has awarded Simon and Martin Lifetime Honorary Membership of British Marine. This honour was announced by Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine, during the AGM. She expressed profound gratitude for their dedication and highlighted the significant strides made under their guidance.

Furthermore, it’s important to note that Martin Latimer, amidst these changes, remains a vital part of the British Marine board, continuing his journey mid-term, bringing his invaluable insight and experience.

The board also bid farewell to Alistair Vallance, editor of the annual Welcome Anchorages publication, who has also decided to retire from the board after many years of bringing his yachting journalism and wider PR experience to BMS’s activities. However, the board also welcomes Euan Carruthers from ‘You and Sea’ and Suzanne Bell from ‘Boatfolk’s Rhu Marina’ who have stepped forward to join the board, restoring it to its full strength.

Lesley Robinson warmly welcomed the new board members, Chair, and Vice Chair. She assured them of the robust support from the British Marine staff team, setting the stage for a promising future.

Sincere thanks were extended to Simon, Martin, and Alistair for their unparalleled service. We wish them well as they step down to enjoy a well-earned rest and lots more sailing time!
