Calling All Volunteers

Open to a wide range of interests and expertise, there are positions available in a range of areas through which our invaluable volunteers work. The roles help deliver and develop on our values and strategies across the participation & development, performance and cruising & general purposes teams.

Perfect for those looking to make a positive impact within the Scottish Boating Community, there’s something for a range of interests.

By example ‘general purposes’ covers everything from protecting the interests and freedoms of the Scottish boating community; advising in marine planning, sustainability, and the environment; through to representing wider boating interests across national and regional working groups as a key consultee.

Or, if speed is your passion, there’s plenty to get excited across various racing classes. Our performance committee supports and celebrates world class Scottish Sailors fighting for World, European, and Olympic Medals.

At the same time, we appreciate results don’t come from nowhere, and so members of our participation and development committee work hard to nurture grassroot involvement within sailing and boating here in Scotland.

We’re looking for individuals with an insight into the areas relevant to our sub committees, from a range of perspectives as we strive to up representation across the boating community.

Expertise will also be valued in applicants for a Director for Cruising and General Purposes to sit on the RYA Scotland Board.

Conversely, applicants for RYA Scotland’s Independent Director do not need a direct insight into sailing as a sport. Instead, someone who sees the value and potential of boating in Scotland is priority.

“When I started the role of CEO back in May, the biggest realisation was the scale of the volunteering that supports RYA Scotland. There are a huge variety of people contributing their skills, expertise and passion for the sport by working with our various committees and our Board. It’s a great opportunity for them to bring about positive experiences and outcomes for the very many people who enjoy being on the water.” Commented Finlo Cottier, CEO of RYA Scotland.

What our volunteers do have in common is enthusiasm, and an eagerness to use their role as a positive outlet to share their experience, knowledge, and passion.

Our valued volunteers work closely with RYA Scotland Staff in an engaged and continuous basis, with regular interworking between our board ad sub committees also.

More information on the RYA Scotland Board and sub committees can be found on our recruitment page, along with information on how to get involved.

Applications must be in by noon on the 8th of January.
