The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is seeking evidence on how non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) should be decarbonised to aid the Government’s wider net zero objectives.

NRMM covers a wide range of machinery, including forklifts, generators, sprayers, pumps and welding equipment. Therefore, national policies to decarbonise such machinery will impact many different types of leisure marine businesses, from marinas and boatyards to distribution warehouses and boatbuilders.

The Department is seeking evidence on how such machinery is used across the economy and the different options to decarbonise, such as the feasibility of changing processes, introducing more efficiency measures and fuel switching technologies. It is also assessing current evidence to determine whether current policies are sufficient or if further government interventions are required.

British Marine is keen to gather evidence from its members to inform its response to this call for evidence. In order to safeguard the interests of our industry, whilst also supporting the Government’s decarbonisation’s objectives, please let us know your views by the end of February.

Information about the policies under consideration and questions posed by the Government can be viewed here with further details published on the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s webpage

Please email your views by 29 February to Joanna Richardson at publicaffairs@britishmarine.co.uk who is working with Ross Wombwell, British Marine’s consultant on decarbonisation, to finalise the response.
