New tech company Farfields IoT announces the Resegva product, a satellite-linked boat monitoring system that is currently on trial in Cornwall.
Resegva remotely monitors the Mylor Boat Hire electric Eco Launches. Using a low-cost satellite network rather than wireless systems is what makes Resegva different from its competitors.
The system on trial in Mylor, Cornwall, locates vessels using GPS and checks the battery voltage of the boat’s electric motor. Data is sent via the satellite network to the boat owner’s phone app, making it ideal for areas where wireless connectivity is unreliable.
Resegva is not limited to monitoring location and battery voltage. Other options for bilge water level, smoke detection, temperature, humidity, and intruders can also be monitored.
John McDermott, CEO, says, “Electric propulsion for boats is rapidly gaining popularity throughout the global marine industry and we want to provide a remote monitoring system that helps ensure the safety, reliability and performance of these new craft wherever they are”.
Mylor Boat Hire wants to monitor the 48V battery voltage installed in their Eco Launches and track boat location. Resegva is now providing this capability for them. With a vision for the future of boating, it is building a fleet of electric self-hire boats. “Boaters want a quieter boating experience with no fuel smells”, says business owner Harry Turner of Mylor Boat Hire, “Using electric technology helps us to protect the beautiful creeks and estuaries that our customers enjoy”.
The development of Resegva using new low-cost satellite systems has been supported by the European Space Agency Business Incubator (ESA BIC) scheme. Resegva completed the ESA BIC programme in November 2023. Work will continue with more features critical for boats with electric propulsion.
CEO John McDermott is committed to the South West Region with local business partners providing key services in developing Resegva. Cornwall has been instrumental in product evolution since the outset. The product name Resegva is the Cornish/Kernewek word for Orbit and reflects the use of satellite technology.
Ver Facil Ltd, based in Bodmin, Cornwall, assisted with the electronics and software development of Resegva. John believed that Ver Facil was the right company to assist in product development. Ver Facil CEO Rob Cartwright says “contributing to the development of Resegva has been an excellent use of our skills and knowledge for Internet of Things applications”.
Cornwall’s wealth of marine businesses, IoT expertise, and commitment to the space economy supported the development of Resegva. John believes the future of his satellite monitoring system will continue to be supported by local companies in the West Country.
