Face masks become mandatory in shops and indoor settings across England

Earlier this week it became mandatory to wear a face covering in shops, maritime ports, and other indoor settings, as set out by the UK Government in its latest guidance.

Staff within these settings, except some transport workers, are required to wear face coverings when they are in an area that is open to the public.

Our members should be aware that customers are also required to wear a face covering on entering any of these settings and must keep it on until they leave, unless they are exempt from wearing a face covering, or have a reason for removing it.

Face coverings are not legally required in hospitality settings given that they cannot be worn while eating and drinking.

British Marine members can find out more about the law, including when face coverings must be worn, face covering exemptions, and the enforcement measures currently in place, on the Gov website here.
