Shared Access, an independent owner and operator of shared wireless infrastructure, has delivered its first hyper-connected marina in the UK.
Berthon Lymington Marina in Hampshire, now boasts the very latest generation of Wi-Fi connectivity, known as Wi-Fi 6. This will deliver tangible benefits to the 250 berth holders as well as leisure visitors to the marina.
Sam Jackman, Chief Development Officer at Shared Access said: “Our extensive knowledge of designing mobile network installations has enabled us to provide a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi 6 for Berthon. Berth holders are now experiencing superfast and secure connectivity that allows multiple devices per berth to connect seamlessly with uninterrupted streaming and immediate downloads. The new network is extremely secure, making it ideal for remote working and there is also the opportunity to review and incorporate new technologies in the future, as needs grow and change.”
Wi-Fi 6 incorporates several new technologies to improve network performance and is especially suited to heavily congested wireless environments like marinas. Berthon now has 19 new Wi-Fi 6 access points giving full coverage to the entire marina. The access points are supplied by a 1000Mbps broadband connection, ensuring that there is plenty of bandwidth to cope with even the busiest of times.
Brian May, Managing Director at Berthon commented: “Everyone expects connectivity in all aspects of their lives now, but we are the first marina in the UK to prioritise this service. Installing Wi-Fi 6 across the marina enables us to continue providing the very highest levels of customer service. We can now guarantee superfast, reliable and secure connectivity for all our boat owners and visitors.”
The enhanced connectivity benefits berth holders and the marina in a number of additional ways. Owners with on-board CCTV cameras can now confidently connect their system, knowing that the signal will never drop out – while the Berthon Marina refueller platform uses the fast and reliable Wi-Fi 6 service to process transactions. And with more boat manufacturers incorporating ‘smart’ technology into their builds, owners will be seeking super connected marinas to make the very most of their boating experience.
Brian May adds: “This new level of connectivity is really exciting for the marina and we’re looking at different ways to leverage it and create an even more fulfilling experience for our customers. We’ve always been committed to delivering the very best service for our berth holders and I’m really proud that with Shared Access’ support, we’re setting new standards for marinas.”
