This year, the Southampton International Boat Show is going greener, with a greater focus on the environment and what manufacturers and customers can do to better support our natural environment.
The Southampton International Boat Show Exhibitor Environmental Award will run for the second time at this year’s show following its successful inauguration in 2019, when it was won by RS Sailing and Spirit Yachts. The award is open to all exhibitors and this year will be presented by The Green Blue patron, Mike Golding, on 10 September 2021.
The award is given to the exhibitor which has the most environmentally sustainable stand at the show. Ideas of how you can achieve this may include:
- Making the stand reusable
- Sharing inspirational ideas and resources to others
- Implementing a green exhibiting strategy
This year is also the third year of the Southampton International Boat Show Charter. Our charter sets new requirements for all exhibitors and suppliers at the show, simultaneously raising the standards for sustainability and reducing the show’s impact on land and sea. Check out the PDF guide here for more information.
At the same time, we have introduced new sustainability requirements for exhibitors. These include:
- No single use-plastic (SUP) bottles or bags on show stands, outlets, or hosted events
- Exhibitors to have a sustainability champion to oversee waste management and recycling
- Exhibitors should only offer sustainable or recyclable promotional giveaways
- Exhibitors are to only have reusable, compostable, or recyclable plates, cups and cutlery on their stand and at hosted events
All exhibitors are invited to sign up to our environmental pledge through British Marine’s exciting new sustainability drive. The pledge promotes the changes within our charter, along with a number of other voluntary environmental commitments for exhibitors. Companies that sign up will receive a special stand plaque, signalling their commitment to environmental sustainability which is available for all visitors to see.
For those visiting the show this year, we are implementing a number of key sustainability changes. This includes E-tickets, water refill points throughout the site, and recyclable containers and cutlery.
This year, The Green Blue will host a number of talks and presentations focused on new, exciting sustainable resources and products for marine businesses and consumers. It will also run presentations from many of our partners, including The Wild Oyster Project, LIFE ReMEDIES Seagrass Project and E Propulsion.
