The Spring Budget in March saw the Chancellor announce a new £7m fund to support the greater use of apprenticeships in sectors with more flexible employment models.

The Government has recently launched the Flexi-Job Apprenticeships Consultation to seek views on their vision and proposals for flexi-job apprenticeships schemes. This consultation will inform the launch of the £7m funds in July.

Blue Davies, Head of Training at British Marine, comments: “This is an opportunity for the industry to have a say on how to increase the use of apprenticeships. The Consultation is requesting your feedback on plans to use the new fund to develop portable apprenticeships and to consider how flexi-job apprenticeship schemes can support the growth of apprenticeships in our sector where often short-term and project-based contracts take place. This could be an opportunity for British Marine members to take on an apprentice, when they haven’t been able to before.
