Don’t forget to apply for government grants to install electric vehicle charging points

Published on: 19 May 2022

Last month, the government announced a new Workplace Charging Scheme; a voucher-based programme that provides accommodation businesses with support towards the upfront costs of electric vehicle charging points.

British Marine has sought clarification on eligibility and can confirm that accommodation providers in the leisure marine sector, such as hire boat operators, should be eligible, provided they meet all other required criteria.

The scheme is run by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and administered by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

The grant covers up to 75 percent of the total costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints (inclusive of VAT), capped at a maximum of:

  • £350 per socket
  • 40 sockets across all sites per applicant

To be eligible, accommodation businesses must have 249 employees or less.
