Recent ministerial changes relevant to the leisure marine industry


Below is a summary of recent changes to government ministerial roles and responsibilities which are considered relevant to British Marine’s National Agenda. 

 

Should there be further changes to these posts following the appointment of a new Prime Minister we will provide a further update.


Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

  • Rt Hon Jacob Rees-Mogg MP – Secretary of State
    Appointed in September having previously served in the Cabinet Office, Jacob is responsible for leading the government’s relationship with business, with a key focus on science, research and innovation.
  • Nusrat Ghani MP – Minister of Science and Investment Security
    Previously at the DfT, Nusrat has responsibility in BEIS for Maritime and Shipbuilding
  • Jackie Doyle-Price MP – Minister for Industry
    In addition to having responsibility for advanced manufacturing, Jackie has responsibility for supply chains, skills, and hospitality. 

Culture, Media and Sport

  • Lord Kamall – Minister for Tourism
    Reporting to the new Secretary of State Michelle Donelan, Lord Kamall’s responsibilities include tourism and heritage.

Education 

  • Andrea Jenkyns MP – Minister for Skills 
    Responsibilities include apprenticeships and traineeships, post 16 and adult education and local skills improvement plans. 

Environment Food and Rural Affairs 

  • Rt Hon Ranil Jayawardena MP – Secretary of State 
    Previously Minister for International Trade, Ranil was appointed in September. His specific responsibilities include water quality and water security.
  • Trudy Harrison MP – Minister for Environment 
    Having served as a minister in both the Department for International Trade and the Department for Transport, it was confirmed this week that Trudy is now lead for the Environment Agency. Her ministerial portfolio includes inland waterways, the natural environment (including domestic marine and net gain), environmental regulations and waste management. 

International Trade

  • Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch MP  – Secretary of State
    Previously served in the Department for Levelling Up, Communities and Housing.
  • Marcus Fysh MP  – Minister for Exports
    This is Marcus’ first ministerial role and is focused on supporting SMEs to export. It includes responsibility for UK Export Finance and trade shows.

Transport 

  • Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP  – Secretary of State 
    Appointed in September, having served the previous 12 months as Secretary of State for International Trade, Anne-Marie has now taken direct responsibility for Maritime which was previously delegated down to a minister within the department.
  • Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC MP – Minister of State 
    Appointed last month, Lucy’s responsibilities in DfT include decarbonisation and the environment. She previously served as Financial Secretary to the Treasury and is known for taking a close interest in maritime issues.
