Atlantis Marine Power has completed its sale to Italian recreational and commercial marine distributor SAIM Group, with specialist M&A advisory firm First Peninsula Marine acting as advisors to Atlantis Marine Power.
The Kohler distributor and marine equipment supplier Atlantis Marine Power is based in Plymouth, and the acquisition by SAIM will give more strength to the distribution in the UK.
Founded in 1986 by Richard and Suzanne Dix, then acquired by Peter Middleton and Paul Lakey in 2005, Atlantis Marine Power became a well-known regional player in supply and support of marine mechanical and electrical equipment, both to leisure craft and commercial boat manufacturers. Middleton will stay in the company as a partner and director.
Middleton said: “Joining SAIM Group will give us the opportunity to become a more powerful company, quicker in response and more diversified in the offer.
“We will be adding more quality components to our product range.”
SAIM, an Italian company specialising in equipment supply, was founded in 1951, with SAIM Marine launching in 1993. Today, SAIM Marine imports and distributes high-tech equipment to large shipyards and has a direct service network along the coasts of Italy, France, Slovenia, and Croatia, as well as worldwide.
SAIM manufactures QS Seamaster dc, ac and hydraulic tunnel and retractable thrusters, as well as Dynamica generators, complementing the Kohler gensets range with high and variable speed models.
Marco Donà, CEO of SAIM, commented: “We’re very glad for this opportunity. The business relationship with Peter goes back many years.
“SAIM and Atlantis Marine Power will be the two most important distributors in Europe for Kohler. We look forward to becoming a strong partner to the British boatbuilders like we are in Italy and in the Emirates.”
Massimo Donà, President of SAIM Group, continued: “We’re proud to be part of the Atlantis Marine family. This is a first step of our group towards territorial diversification.
“SAIM Group is strongly investing in new business opportunities both in new markets and technologies, especially as far as the renewable energy solutions are concerned. The acquisition of AMP is fully synergistic in this respect enabling us to approach several UK cutting-edge component manufacturers.”
