The British Youth Sailing Dinghy Regional Junior Championships will be an exciting Devon festival for junior sailors on 17/18 June, thanks to Royal Torbay Yacht Club (RTYC) and Paignton Sailing Club (PSC). The two clubs are helping the RYA to organise the event, providing committee boats, RIBS, volunteers and dinghies for the Rookie fleet.
There will be three fleets: the Championship Fleet, the Coached Regatta Fleet and the Rookie Fleet powered by OnBoard, providing an opportunity for all levels of sailing. Sailors in all three fleets will launch from RTYC, where the evening activity and BBQ will be held.
Classes for the Championship fleet are Optimist, Topper, RS Tera (Sport Rig), RS Feva XL and ILCA 4. For the Regatta fleet they are Optimist, Topper, RS Tera (Sport Rig) and RS Feva XL (no spinnaker). There are no entry limits in either fleet, so the more the merrier!
The Rookie fleet is aimed at newer-to-sailing young sailors (stage 2+), using boats provided and including lots of games and sailing fun. Numbers are limited to 24 sailors, so get your entries in quickly.
Along with prizes for event winners, there will be a range of prizes for sailors exhibiting the British Youth Sailing Values and Behaviours and showing a passion for the sport. There is also a Club Trophy for the club that has the most entries at the event.
Parents, too, will have opportunities to get afloat and help with the safety fleet, or take on roles ashore.
Find out more and book – the deadline is 12 June
Thanks go to the volunteers from Royal Torbay Yacht Club and Paignton Sailing Club for making this event possible.
