Hello,
Well – what fantastic weather we have been having, it really does help show off sailing to newcomers in the best way possible. I hope this weather has assisted an increase in enquiries to your club, as well as helping any open days you have hosted be even more successful.
OnBoard in the South
A very successful OnBoard Development Day took place this month for instructors at Tackt Isle Adventures on the Isle of Wight. Popular Oppie coach and OnBoard instructor, Josh Atherton, led the six instructors as they took part in a shore-based session in the morning and a water session after lunch.
If your club would like to know more about how the OnBoard programme can help you and your instructors then please do contact RYA South Sailing Development Officer, Polly Schafer, for more info. She would love to hear from you.
And remember, OnBoard recognised clubs can also use our two mega sups for free!
South Regional Junior Championships
The combined South and South West windsurfing event took place last weekend over at Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club at Axbridge Reservoir. Over 20 junior windsurfers aged 16 and under – of all skill levels – took part. As ever, these events depend on the host venue, so thank you to BCYC as well as to the many parent helpers and a shout out also to Race Officer John Allen who volunteered to run the windsurf racing.
Next up it’s the turn of the dinghy sailors. This year the South event will be a standalone event from the South West region, and will take place at Oxford Sailing Club. The team are busy preparing for the event next weekend. If you are coming along please do say hello.
RYA Membership Census
It’s that time of year again…the RYA Membership Census will soon be live. I know that over the next few weeks clubs will be busy, but we really do appreciate you spending some time completing the census.
The more comprehensive the information you supply the more insights and trends we can discover, nationally and regionally. This means that we can support you, the people running the clubs, with the very best information.
The data will be even more valuable if you can complete and send back your data around the same date as it was completed last year if at all possible – thank you.
RYA Club of the Year Awards
Nominations are now open for the RYA Club of the Year Awards! There is a change to the usual format this year with the introduction and four new categories:
- Community
- Green
- Active
- Young Person’s Club of the Year
Anyone can nominate any club – so what are you waiting for? More information here.
And finally… Change of date!
The 2024 South OnBoard Development Day will be on Saturday 3rd February 2024 (not the 27th January as previously announced) at Royal Lymington Yacht Club.
Until next time,
Susie
