Vanda Jowett from the club takes up the story:
The open day
A pleasant F3 breeze gave those who had booked to get afloat a real taste of dinghy sailing at its best. In all 51 people got a first-hand experience of dinghy sailing with an experienced club member at the helm to show them the ropes. After their sail they were also able to have a go at paddleboarding on one of the club’s SUPs , or receive some tips on the windsurfing basics using our windsurfing simulator.
Meanwhile for those ashore the galley provided refreshments throughout the day, whilst demonstration races in front of the clubhouse with a running commentary provided spectator entertainment.
Surrey Day and Phabsail
The day coincided with Surrey Day, and we were honoured to co-host the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael and Sarah More-Molyneux who came to visit Littleton Phabsail, which provides sailing for the disabled on our lake. We enjoyed talking about Littleton Sailing Club’s local community and volunteers that make sailing, paddleboarding, and windsurfing available to our Surrey neighbours.
The outcome
Around 30 of our visitors have now taken the plunge and joined the club. Some have previous sailing experience and even their own boats, whilst others are looking forward to participating in one of the RYA Level 1 & 2 courses being run at the club in the next couple of months. Quite a large percentage have children who are planning to attend our parent led, award winning, Junior Sailing Group on Saturday afternoons.
