As the summer season is underway, it’s been great to see so much activity taking place at Clubs across the Region – don’t forget to tell us what you’re up to – you can use the hashtags #RYAEast on social media, and you can also use our media form here.
There’s been a few events taking place regionally – the British Youth Sailing Regional Junior Championships took place at Grafham Water last month – as a celebration of youth sailing it was fantastic to see so many young people on the water across the various different fleets – Championship, Regatta and Rookie. For me, one of the highlights was the Rookie Fleet, which saw young people at the start of their sailing journey enjoying being on the water – with the fleet, under the watchful eye of Sailing Development Officer Jen, enjoying sailing, swimming and paddleboarding, all whilst developing the OnBoard attributes of teamwork, determination, communication, independence, confidence and creativity. They also came from clubs from across the whole region.
It’s also been great to see the British Keelboat League events taking place in the Region, with a recent successful event at Marconi Sailing Club at the start of June, and now the countdown is on to the next event at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham over the weekend of 22-23 July in Hunter 707s – you can find out more here.
I also attended an update from Ben Bennett from Gallagher, the RYA’s club insurance partner, which provided some interesting information, and a reminder that they have a dedicated RYA account team, so should you have any insurance questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. There have been several outboard thefts recently, so be vigilant and do all you can to safeguard your engines. If you’re modernising your facilities, for example adding solar panels, or if you haven’t updated the insurable value recently, it’s worth reviewing as there could be a risk of underinsurance.
