John Goode

Beloved by many in the leisure marine industry for his personality and memorable work, British Marine is saddened to share that John Goode has passed away, following a short illness.

After a career in the Merchant Navy, John helped train thousands of sailors through his Southern Sailing School and enthused many more through his many books and articles on seamanship and pilotage. He contributed to many of the UK’s sailing magazines and also edited Sailing Today magazine from 2001-2007.

British Marine was always delighted to work with John during the Southampton International Boat Show and the London Boat Show. With John so loved and respected in the boating world, it was a natural fit to use his passion for sailing and understanding of teaching and instructing to inspire visitors to the show to take to the water.

Lesley Robinson, CEO of British Marine, paid tribute to John, saying: “John will be so sadly missed by all of us at British Marine. Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends.

British Marine President, Ian Cooke
, also added: “John was a truly nautical character, who’s vast and hugely positive input into the British maritime world will be sorely missed.
