The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy have published a list of amendments for designated standards in the UK. This applies for Recreational craft and personal watercraft in support of the Recreational Craft Regulations 2017 (S.I. 2017/737).

Annex I of the document goes through all of the designated standards which will be included on the designated standard list 29 days after the notice was published on the 21st October. Annex II then goes through the list of standards which will be removed from the designated standard list and therefore removed from publication. This also shows the date of when they will be removed, which is 27th February 2023.

Below you can see the list of standards from Annex I which are going to be designated:

  • EN ISO 7840:2021 – Small Craft – Fire-resistant fuel hoses
  • EN ISO 8469:2021 – Small Craft – Non-fire-resistant fuel hoses
  • EN ISO 9093:2021 – Small Craft – Seacocks and through-hull fittings
  • EN ISO 16147:2021 – Small Craft – Inboard diesel engines – Engine-mounted fuel, oil and electrical components
  • EN ISO 23411:2021 – Small Craft – Steering wheels

The standards in Annex I are proposed to be published and accordingly designated under regulation 2A of S.I. 2017/737 at 00:01 on the 29th day after the date the notice was published; unless the notice is withdrawn or amended before that date.

We suggest that you take the time to look at the standards which have been published to see the changes or updates that have been made, and to have a look at the standards which consequently will be removed from publication.

You can find the document that BEIS published here, which show’s all of the standards which are becoming designated and the list of standards which will be removed from publication.

If you wish to object to any of the proposals, you can find the form on the government website here.

This must be emailed to designatedstandards@beis.gov.uk within the 28 day timeframe.
