The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has released a guidance document intended to support businesses placing products on the market in Great Britain. The newly released United Kingdom Conformity Assessed (UKCA) implementation guide is intended to provide clarity on goods which require UKCA marking.
The guidance document provides information on the following topics:
- Placing goods on the market in Great Britain
- Circulation of goods on the market
- UKCA labelling easement
- Components
- Prototypes and testing
- Leasing and hiring
- Economic operator responsibilities
The guidance is for goods which require UKCA marking, however, businesses should take the time to read the individual regulations applicable to their goods. This is because the definitions and requirements for ‘economic operators’ (i.e. manufacturers, importers, distributors, and authorised representatives) and conformity assessment procedures may differ.
The guidance document also includes indicative examples which do not apply to all products, but are designed to help you interpret the individual regulations.
This document represents the department’s interpretation of the legislative framework and does not have legal force. It does not apply to Northern Ireland and there are special rules for Qualifying Northern Ireland goods.
