Following the briefing given by ICOMIA at the world marinas conference, 9-11 October 2023, on the Ricardo Decarbonisation Study, and international partners engaging with the US department for energy and EU governments, British Marine this week met with the UK government, Department for Transport Domestic Maritime Emissions Policy representatives to brief the team on the study, its findings and the coming UK government strategy for decarbonisation in the marine sector.
With governments around the world now looking at policy levers to encourage the transition to zero emission craft it is important to ensure that the UK government is aware of the work being carried out by the UK marine industry with its international partners to identify suitable routes to Net Zero.
With the revision of the UK’s Clean Maritime Plan ongoing and continuing discussions at policy level on the phasing out of non-zero emission domestic vessels, the report has come at the opportune time to ensure UK government policy is fully engaged with the UK marine industry and any future directions taken will be based upon solid independently verified research data.
