Apprenticeships UK

The British Marine End Point Assessment (EPA) team will shortly deliver the first ever end point assessments for the Marina and Boatyard Level 2 and Boatbuilder Level 3 Apprenticeship Standards.

Approved by the Education and Skills Funding Agency in 2020 to deliver the marina and boatyard operative, boatbuilder and marine engineer standards, the team has been working collaboratively with key stakeholders to set up the service.  It is available to any employer and training provider which requires assessment for an apprentice who is undertaking one of the apprenticeships that British Marine is approved to provide EPA for.

With new apprenticeship standards replacing the old apprenticeship frameworks, the traditional formative approach to assessment has been replaced by a more general approach.  This means a holistic assessment of an apprentice’s competence is carried out at the end of the training period, rather than formal assessment being delivered throughout the training.

As a mandatory component of the new apprenticeship standards, an EPA must be passed before an apprentice can achieve their apprenticeship and claim their certificate. For further information on how the assessment process works, employers can access a detailed GOV.UK guide here.
