Broads Clubs compete in Inter-Club Championship

For the 2023 event, it was sailed for in Yeoman keelboats, a familiar sight on the Broads.

Organised by the Norfolk & Suffolk Boating Association and hosted by Coldham Hall Sailing Club, based on the River Yare in Surlingham, racing began in very light winds, and there was some relief as this picked up during the day.

With each of the eleven teams from clubs across Suffolk and Norfolk sailing in four races, there were no discards and total points were counted, leading to a champion of champions style event. Dependent on performance, sailors would be moved up or down in flights, with the top flight winners able to select their boat for the next round.

Eventually, after a day’s racing, it was Norfolk-based Lady Yacht Club (Chris Bunn & Chris Tuckett) who emerged on top, with Waveney & Oulton Broad Yacht Club second (Chris & Gill Jordan), and Beccles Amateur Sailing Club third (Jack Sisley & Hugh Braidwood).

We know that across the region many clubs enjoy similar events and bring sailing clubs together to compete with friendly rivalry – do tell us about your events here.
