The survey, which is open until 21 November, asks boaters what facilities they consider to be essential and should continue to be provided by the Canal and River Trust (CRT), as well as minimum cruising distances between facilities.

The Canal and River Boat Trust, the charity responsible for maintaining the 2,000-mile network of inland waterways in England and Wales, is looking to establish a minimum standard of customer service facilities to best meet the needs of those living on and navigating the network with the resources available.

Phase one of the consultation is via a 15 minute online consultation survey, open until 21 November 2022.  The survey seeks views on what customer facilities should and should not be provided by the CRT; what the minimum cruising distance between facilities should ideally be; and what local factors should be taken into consideration where there is higher or lower demand.

This consultation process will inform a new minimum standard for the quality and availability of facilities. A second phase, which will look at existing facilities against the new minimum standard, will take place in 2023.

British Marine will continue to engage with the CRT as this process develops. Should members wish to inform British Marine’s work on this topic please send comments to Joanna Richardson, Senior Public Affairs & Policy Executive, email jrichardson@britishmarine.co.uk.
