Acclaimed British boatbuilder, Cockwells Modern and Classic Boatbuilding, has been nominated for a second coveted industry award, this time for its Modular Tender.

The craft is one of six exemplary designs to have been shortlisted in the ‘Tender of the Year’ category of the 2023 BOAT International Design and Innovation Awards, which celebrates world-class naval architecture and styling as well as innovation, engineering and sustainability.

Cockwells’ Modular Tender features custom modules that enable a single vessel to perform a variety of functions, demonstrating all the ingenuity and technical expertise of a bespoke superyacht tender builder at the top of its game.

The base boat is a highly versatile, stable platform with a beach-landing ramp and loading bay that has the capacity to carry a small car, jeep, or all-terrain vehicle. It forms the perfect utility vessel for transporting goods and vehicles to and from a mothership, as well as for performing maintenance duties.

The hull is unsinkable as a result of its built-in buoyancy and the raised helm position at the stern provides the helmsman with excellent 360-degree visibility, even when the vessel is fully loaded with goods or custom modules.

The base boat can be supplied at a varying length of between 8m and 10m with either inboard or outboard engines, and with state-of-the-art joystick control, for pinpoint accuracy. When fitted with two 325hp Suzuki outboards, the vessel can achieve a maximum speed of 50 knots.

The custom modules are craned into the base boat in a simple process with a unique locating/quick locking system for easy installation, transforming the base boat into an entirely new craft, whether clients require a Beach Club, Fast Guest Transfer Shuttle, Luxury Limousine, a fishing or diving vessel, or a module that enables access for disabled guests.

The Beach Club incorporates a bbq grill, DJ station, plush beach-style seating area, stylish canopy shading and a water mist cooling system – the perfect accompaniment to any beach party. The vessel can be driven onto the beach, where the door is then lowered, allowing passengers to embark or disembark at their leisure.

The Fast Guest Transfer Shuttle with its 12 anti-shock jockey seats transports guests at high speed in safety and comfort.

The Luxury Limousine, with comfortable seating for up to twelve guests in an air-conditioned environment, affords all the opulence of a superyacht limousine.

The Fishing Module includes live bait wells, tuna tubes, rod holders and a gunwale bolster, positioned at the perfect height for maximum comfort.

The Dive Module offers bottle storage and seating that is specifically designed for divers and their gear, as well as a specialist ladder that can be deployed from the bow ramp.

The Disabled Access Module features a lift to enable comfortable access for wheelchair users via the bow ramp.

“Following its world premiere at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, interest in this innovative design has been significant from superyacht owners who require the flexibility of a multi-purpose landing craft that maximises limited space on board,” explains founder and managing director, Dave Cockwell.

“To have achieved this prestigious nomination as we celebrate yet another year of record sales and growth is a testament to our exceptional team of designers and craftsmen who build exquisitely crafted vessels that meet our discerning clients’ exact requirements.”

The winners of the 2023 BOAT International Design and Innovation Awards will be announced during the Superyacht Design Festival, which will take place in the heart of the Dolomitic Alps, at Cortina d’Ampezzo, between 8 and 10 February 2023.
