Discover Sailing at Horning Sailing Club at the Horning Boat Show

On coastline, lakes and waterways across the UK there are around 2,000 RYA affiliated clubs and centres offering opportunities for water-lovers of all ages to get afloat, with many of these based on the East Coast inland rivers, lakes, Broads, estuaries and waterways. This summer some venues are running #DiscoverSailing sessions, inviting you to come and ‘have a go’ for very little cost.

One of these is Horning Sailing Club (HSC), based on the Norfolk Broads, who are holding a Discover Sailing Day on Saturday 30 April in conjunction with the Horning Boat Show, which is returning after a four-year gap.

Will Penny, HSC Commodore, said ‘What can be better than being out in the fresh air, enjoying the beautiful Norfolk Broads? Providing a chance to enjoy sailing on the River Bure at Horning – whether it’s your first time, or something you’ve always wanted to get back into – get in touch and come and enjoy one of our taster sessions on Saturday 30 April as part of the Horning Boat Show and the RYA’s Discover Sailing Programme.”

The Club is situated on the bend of the River Bure opposite the Swan Inn and the Club will be providing taster sessions in a variety of boats, suitable for all the family from 10am-4pm. No sailing experience is required, and tasters will be just £5 per person (with accompanied under-16s free). Buoyancy aids are provided, so please wear suitable clothing (layers, along with non-slip footwear – not flip-flops, high heels or wellington boots – and come and get on the water with one of our experienced sailors. If possible, we’d encourage you to book beforehand by emailing news@horning-sailing.club

HSC is a family friendly club which runs a variety of events during the year, from racing on Sundays (from March through to October) to the nationally famous Three Rivers Race. It is also an RYA Recognised Training Centre, RYA OnBoard Sailability and British Youth Sailing Recognised Club, running sail training for children and adults on Thursday evenings from May to September and powerboat training. The Club also has a popular Saturday Sundown informal race series, and a paddleboarding night on Mondays.
