Ed Balls confirmed as headline economist at the British Marine National Conference

15-16 March 2022. National Conference Centre (NCC).

British Marine are delighted to announce that the former Shadow Chancellor, academic, author and broadcaster Ed Balls will be presenting an essential keynote speech, forecasting the future economic landscape for the marine industry.

Ed’s talk, which includes a guest panel and interactive audience Q&A session, will form part of an exciting two-day programme, which has been carefully curated for 300 of our industry’s top decision makers. The focus of the conference, which has been developed for both inland and coastal businesses, will be on innovation.

Well positioned to deliver an economic keynote, Ed Balls is a political advisor, politician and Shadow Chancellor and was closely involved with UK and international economic policy and forecasting from 1997-2015. Following his political career, he was appointed Professor of Political Economy at King’s College, London and a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. Ed led a project on the evolution of central banking post-financial crisis and on the impact of Brexit on British business, UK trade and the future of Global Britain. He has given seminars at Harvard, Yale, NYU, Stanford and USC as well as regularly at King’s. He has also served as a consultant at the International Monetary Fund and at the EU.

Ed Balls’ keynote will form one of several essential scene-setters on the first day of National Conference: Innovate To Succeed 2022, which will be held at the National Conference Centre (NCC) in the well-connected heart of the Midlands. Not to be missed, delegates will be able to engage with presentations from subject matter experts, inspirational keynotes and sector-specific workshops on key areas including participation, tourism, fundraising, technology, staff retention and development, logistics, product and service innovation. Ample networking opportunities will be available to discuss topics of the day and make new contacts. An informal dinner and industry awards evening, presented by Ed Balls, will enable further opportunities to engage with fellow peers and celebrate industry achievements.

The National Conference’s professionally managed programme is overseen by a British Marine member steering group, to ensure that it provides delegates with essential inspiration, exclusive information and contacts to plan their innovative next steps in business development.

Further details of speakers and content will be announced imminently through British Marine’s communications and on the National Conference microsite at https://mymembership.britishmarine.co.uk/national-conference.
