From the Chair – an update from the London and South East Regional Team

Dickie Bird has resigned, for genuine personal reasons, as Chair of the RYA LSE Region. He has put in an enormous amount of hard work, travelled many miles in our cause and we thank him for his huge effort. We wish him well.

Meanwhile to fill the vacancy and keep the show on the road I have been asked, as the longest standing member of the Regional Executive, to take over as Interim Chair until the next AGM. Having worked with Bill Shepherd and Helen Hoffman, the two preceding persons in the role, I am reasonably acquainted with its workings plus already have (I hope) a good working relationship with RYA staff at both Hamble and in our region.

So basically we hope that the transition will be seamless and we are already working on projects for the next twelve months within the region.

We are undoubtedly well served by our Area Representatives, most of whom I have been in contact with and will be with the odd few others. Both from a club and personal member aspect they are there to assist and if they do not know the answer there will certainly be somebody in the RYA world that will do so you will get pointed in the right direction. Please take advantage of it even if it’s only to check what the chap who sits in at the corner of the club bar who seems to be the font of all knowledge (you know the one) actually knows what he is talking about.

You can find who’s who in our regional team, their roles and contact details here

As for myself I have feet in various aspects of our sport – I am not a quadruped before you ask- so I do have a feeling for the problems and frustrations that arise from time to time in our wonderful pastime.

Any thoughts, comments or even moans please contact Chair
