HM Revenue and Customs has launched two new consultations as the Government looks to simplify customs declaration processes and improve the Temporary Admission procedure for bringing goods into the UK.

British Marine members are invited to attend both HMRC launch events outlined below.

The Future of Customs Declarations  consultation will run until 8 September and seeks views on how to simplify the customs declaration process and improve the way businesses use technology to facilitate the completion of customs declarations. British Marine members which export and/or import products may wish to join in HMRC’s launch event on 13 July –  to attend please email externalstakeholders.customs@hmrc.gov.uk by 11 July.

The Government is also seeking views from traders which use the Temporary Admission Procedure. The Bringing Goods into the UK temporarily  consultation will run until 22 September. It aims to gather views on how the TA procedure could be simplified for users and make it more accessible. HMRC will be hosting a launch event for this consultation on 20 July – members wishing to attend should email externalstakeholders.customs@hmrc.gov.uk by 11 July.

If your business is being hindered by the current customs processes and/or the Temporary Admission Procedure and would like to help inform British Marine’s responses to these consultation, please email publicaffairs@britishmarine.co.uk by Friday 11 August or speak to Joanna Richardson, Senior Public Affairs Executive on 07860 848834.

British Marine’s own customs experts, PK Francis Clark, will also be assessing the consultation proposals and advise on how British Marine might wish to respond.
