ICOMIA has released a survey with a number of questions aimed at identifying methods used by boat builders to prove compliance in terms of using hazardous substances. The questions have been formulated by Mayrie Eckermann of Cummins, the Chair of the ICOMIA Marine Engines Committee (IMEC) Substances working group who is hoping to receive feedback on the following questions:
- What is your process of demonstrating compliance to product substance (chemical) restrictions; such as locating Reach SVHC’s in your products?
- Do your suppliers have a standard method of reporting data (form, software, etc.) to you?
- Are suppliers providing full substance disclosure? If not, how are you handling data collection when new substances become declarable, restricted, prohibited?
- Would you be interested in an industry-wide tool to minimize the burden on the supply chain to facilitate quicker and more accurate data exchange; similar to what the automotive industry is using for IMDS?
British Marine is reaching out to the boatbuilding and component manufacturing members to get their view on the questions that have been posed, to help IMEC better understand some of the challenges involved.
ICOMIA is asking that any comments or feedback is submitted before the start of BOOT 2022 in Dusseldorf – Friday 21st January 2022.
