The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has released its summary of pending IMO legislation affecting the leisure boating and large yacht industries as of December 2021. The summary, which is linked here, consists of two tables.
The first table provides information on legislation which originates from the IMO that will have or will likely have an impact on the leisure boating and yachting industries. The second table shows the compliance dates for D-2 ballast water performance standard.
The summary in table one consists of items such as:
- Application of the Polar Code to non-SOLAS vessels
- Application of chapters 9 and 11 of the Polar Code to non-SOLAS ships
- Safe mooring operations
- Sub-division and damage stability of passenger ships
- Computerised stability support for the master in case of flooding in passenger ships
- Recycling of ships – Hong Kong convention
- MARPOL Annex I Amendments
- MARPOL Annex V Amendments
- Amendments to Annex 1 of the Anti-fouling convention
This is to name a few of the items which are covered in table 1. British Marine suggests that members take the time to look at the report and the tables published by the IMO and read through the brief description, the impact there will be on the legislation, the pros and cons, any actions ICOMIA will have and when the entry into force will be.
