South Devon College has announced seven Composites and GRP Workshops that are being delivered free of charge for businesses to upskill or retrain employees working with these materials. Further workshops will be announced in September, along with a choice of short courses that focus on specific composites processes, for example resin infusion.
The training is part of the SMART SKILLS programme, funded by the European Social Fund, which aims to help businesses and the self-employed to identify skills gaps in their existing workforce and provide the skills training they need to become more resilient in periods of economic difficulty and beyond.
Blue Davies, Head of Training at British Marine, commented: “This is an ideal way to train, upskill, help retain and recruit staff within the marine industry.”
Each of the first seven workshops will be delivered over a half to a full day, subjects include:
- Starting with composites
- Essential composite skills
- GRP fault diagnosis and minor repairs
- Advanced GRP repairs and surface finishing
- Introduction to Vacuum Resin Transfer Moulding
- Introduction to resin infusion
- How can composites help my business?
The workshops are delivered at the South Devon College Composites Academy and will be a combination of in person practical sessions and online theory.
Full details and how to enrol can be found here, where you can also chat with members of the composites team to ask questions and find out more.
South Devon College is part of the CSW network (a not-for-profit organisation supporting young people make successful transitions into employment, education and training) chosen to deliver the training in the South West at no extra cost to a business. Funding is available for those employed within the industry or considering a career change including anyone unemployed looking at entering the sector.
