North West Blog February

There is a growth in the number of people nationally wing surfing and wing foiling, but there is currently nowhere to learn to wing in the Northwest.I want to improve this and am reaching out to any centres interested in doing the RYA Wing surfing scheme. If this is you, I am keen to meet with you to see what we need to put in place to make it happen. I would love to have a wing surfing centre in the region by the end of the year.To manage expectations, I can’t buy you all the kit as much as I would like too, but I can support you with getting an instructor course set up, grant funds and the like.If this has spiked your interest, find out more about winging here.

Welcome to our newest OnBoard Clubs

This month we welcome our 34th and 35th Onboard Clubs to the Onboard programme. A big welcome to Crosby Marina Club and the Isle of Man Yacht Club. Did you know? We have delivered over 5000 first experiences in the 2022/2023 reporting period. This is a fantastic achievement and I look forward to supporting our newest clubs to create even more first experiences for young sailors.

Regional Training Day

To help you get set for the season ahead, make sure you book the Regional Training Day on March 18th, supported by Gallagher Insurance. The training day is for anyone involved in the practical delivery of activities, but we only have a limited number of spaces, so please book soon to avoid disappointment. The theme of the day is ‘Creating a great participant experience’, and this year rather than attending multiple workshops, the afternoon sessions will now focus on just one area, to give attendees a real insight into Power, Sail and Board sports. If there is a session you are keen on, please do book sooner rather than later.

Last call!

The Senior Instructor Course has just two places left but don’t panic; we will be running another course in the autumn. Dates are to be confirmed, but it is likely to occur at the Anderton Centre, Chorley.

RYA Dinghy and Water sports Show

If you are planning to attend the Dinghy and Water sports show in Farnham, come and see me.  I will be manning the RYA stand and would be happy to have a chat at the stand or drop me a message to arrange a time to go for a coffee.

And that just leaves me to say… the season is nearly in full swing, but what a fantastic winter season it has been, it’s been great to see you all getting involved in the various winter series, from Leigh and Lowton to the Ullswater Winter series and everything in between. Our newest calendar edition is still yet to come this weekend, and that is the Freezer Open at Hollingworth and I’m looking forward to getting out on the water for that one.

For now, happy sailing!
