November Scottish Club Chat

We know that the arrival of the winter months means a gradual change in focus across clubs and organisations in Scotland. A number of you will either look towards the more governance elements of your organisation such as AGMs and membership renewals and/or turn your thoughts to the development of your organisations – what do we want to do long term, what support do we need and how will 2023/24 look?

So, what can we do to help you? As well as being available for a call, chat (online/in person) or at the end of an email to answer any queries you may have, we have a number of opportunities coming up:

Participation and Development Workshop Programme

This online programme of events kicks off with the first workshop on Funding (on 16th November) already full There are still spaces on each of the remaining two workshops on Facility Development (18th January 2023) and Community Mapping (8th February 2023) and you can book your free place here.

We hope that this will give as many clubs and organisations a chance to come together to learn, talk and share best practice around each of the three topics

Cost of Living Connect Call – Wednesday 7th December 2022

We are hosting a conversation about the ‘cost of living’ as we are aware it is impacting on organisations across our community, as well as impacting on our participants and members of sport.

We would like to invite all affiliated clubs, centres, and organisation to a ‘Connect Call on Wednesday 7th December 2022 at 6.30pm. This will be an open discussion on how it is impacting your organisation, what steps you may have or plan to take around this issue and a chance to hear from other in the community. If you would like to join for an hour on Zoom then please book your place here.

RYA Club Development Forums

Following the launch of the Affiliated Club Conferences with an online RYA Clube Live event at the start of October (you can watch a recording of the session here), we are delighted to confirm that we are linking up with our colleagues across the UK on some Club Development Sessions. The topics, in places, are similar and some of the content (such as the December funding one) may be more appropriate to our colleagues in England but these short, sharp workshops will allow you to pick up some further information to help support your organisation from the comfort of your own home. Further details are available here

RYA Online Development Workshops – Coaches, Instructors & Trainers

Over the winter, the RYA Race Coach Development team are putting on a series of online development workshops from now until March 2023. They will be covering a variety of topics including Coaching Boat Speed, How we Learn, Mindset and Question time. Further information on the booking process for RYA members (you will need your membership number to book) and details of the sessions is available here

One additional area we would like to draw your attention to is the….

Branded Hey Girls Sanitary products at a Sailing Club

Hey Girls and RYA Scotland Partnership

As you may already know (or not) we are linking with the team at Hey Girls to promote awareness around the barriers that women and girls face during their menstrual cycle? Helping to ensure that there are free, sustainable period products for women and girls to use, is only the start and will help to remove a barrier to getting on the water.

We are now looking for affiliated clubs and organisations to get involved and work with us on this project. We have a full outline of information for your club committee as well as potentially some free resources for your organisation. If you would like further information then please do not hesitate to get in touch with one of the team or by emailing us

Finally, if you would like to hear more or organise a catch-up with one of the team, then please drop us an email!

We hope you to catch up with you all soon!

Take care and stay safe!
