With the Southampton International Boat Show only next week, make sure you are registered for the popular Women in Marine events.

Taking place on Thursday 21 September, Women in Marine, kindly headline sponsored by Haven Knox Johnson and Lewmar, and additionally supported by Marine Industry News, Barton Marine and Barrus, will be bringing you a number of engaging events throughout the day.

Rhoda Schnitzer, leadership and culture development director for Lippert Marine Group Europe, which includes Lewmar, commented on the importance of supporting events like this: “At Lewmar, we believe that everyone matters. We believe in and respect the inherent value of every person and actively encourage inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging while driving a culture of caring. Our sponsorship of British Marine’s Women in Marine event is a reflection of our commitment to put real resources behind our mission and our vision to use business as a force for good.”

Vickie Fox, account cxecutive for Haven Knox-Johnston said: “Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial (formerly A-Plan Commercial Marine) is delighted to continue its sponsorship of Women in Marine for another year. We firmly believe in the importance of championing women in the marine industry. As an advocate of equality for all, I am looking forward to joining a panel of my peers to explore how we can continue to empower each other in the industry and progress our collective future.”

To get the day underway, at 10.45am, Captain Sandy, star of the hit TV series, Below Deck Mediterranean, will be joining us on the Foredeck Stage to discuss her career journey into the marine world and the challenges she has faced.  After which she will also be signing copies of her book ‘Be the calm or be the storm – Leadership lessons from a woman at the helm’ exclusively for show visitors.

Following the positive interest and feedback after last year’s mental wellbeing session, this year we will be bringing you not one but two mental wellbeing sessions at 11:15 and 14:00, on the Foredeck Stage.

Then at 16.00, back on the Foredeck Stage, the ever-popular Women in Marine Panel and Networking event will take place.

This year’s panel discussion will be centred around the importance of communication in business. “We have put together an excellent team of panellists from across the industry, to discuss their stories and provide different insights into business communication”, explained Lesley Robinson, CEO, British Marine.

This year’s panel consists of:

  • Belinda Joslin – Founder of Women in Boatbuilding
  • Becky Newdick – Chief Officer – Wightlink Vehicle Ferries and Founder of the Safer Waves Organisation
  • Emma York – Social Media Trainer, Digital Marketing Specialist and Owner – Fresh Approach Digital
  • Rhoda Schnitzer – Leadership and Culture Development Director – Lippert Marine Group (Lewmar)
  • Vicky Fox – Account Executive – Haven Knox-Johnston Commercial

The panel discussion will be hosted by Lyndsay McClay, commercial manager for Marine Industry News, which will be followed by a networking session with drinks and nibbles until 6pm.

“We are delighted to be joined by such a wonderful line up of inspirational speakers for our Women in Marine events at this year’s Southampton International Boat Show.  Women in Marine always proves to be a popular day at the show and with such a great line up, I am sure this year will be no exception,” Lesley added.
