For the first time ever, RYA Northern Ireland will be producing its own podcast, Crest Of The Wave.
Hosted by Marketing and Communications Executive Peter Gilmore, it will be available to listen to on major streaming platforms from the Friday the 26th of January, providing an accessible form of entertainment relating to sailing and boating in Northern Ireland.
Every two weeks, there will be a new episode featuring a different guest. This means that the topics will be diverse, highlighting the four strategy goals in RYA Northern Ireland’s five-year strategy, Navigating the Future. These are: Maximising athlete potential, Improving diversity, Re-imagined pathways and Inspiring people to continue to give their time.
About the host
Peter joined RYANI in November, so he is the newest addition to our team, however he is no stranger to sailing in Northern Ireland. He is familiar with the RYANI pathway system, having been a member of the Topper and ILCA squads as a youth sailor. He also brings a knowledge of cruising, having sailed across the Atlantic and back between 2018/19.
Since then, he has acquired experience as a journalist and a reporter for UTV, ITV Wales and Greatest Hits Radio, as well as hosting his own podcast A Call From Quarantine, during the Covid-19 lockdown.
A Message from RYANI CEO, Greg Yarnall
Ahead of the launch of the Crest Of The Wave podcast, RYANI CEO Greg Yarnall explained why the decision has been made for RYA Northern Ireland to start a podcast and what makes him excited about the launch.
“As part of our five-year strategy, Navigating the Future, we wanted to celebrate the stories of people involved in sailing, windsurfing and boating in Northern Ireland. The podcast provides a different platform to do this, whilst also delving deeper into the successes and how they overcame any challenges along the way.
“I’m really excited for the launch of our podcast, as the stories being shared can inspire others, whether to get involved as a volunteer, coach or official, to explore having a go at a different part of the sport they hadn’t considered, or even to pursue a career in the sport.
“I’m confident that Peter will do a great job as the host. His background in journalism, coupled with his vast sailing experience, provides a great balance when finding the right questions to ask to help bring someone’s personal and sporting story to life.”
