RYA Scotland Impact Awards Announced

RYA Scotland invited nominations in March of who in our communities think deserves recognition for going above and beyond in supporting activities afloat over the past year.

With people are at the very core of boating we managed to get some fantastic nominations in about the differences being made by volunteers and instructing staff across the boating community. We then went out to meet those people under a revised Impact Award format,  to find out a little more about them and the people, places and communities they impact.

We want to celebrate and inspire, whether RYA members, participants, paid staff or volunteers, we want to recognise when our people and activities are successful, supported, sustainable, inclusive and valued in their endeavours.

The RYA Scotland Impact Awards aim to recognise that value of those people and share the stories over a series of short films during Volunteer Week 1-7th June, and beyond.

There were very personal thanks for the impact people made or were for a much wider recognition of their impact to the sport or organisation. We hope we have captured this to share just some of the fantastic things going on to support sailing and boating in Scotland.

The first recipient is Hugh McLean from the Clyde Cruising Club’s Dinghy Section. Since retiring he gives his time as the bosun, maintaining the club’s fleet and facilities. He brings together a group of volunteers dubbed, ‘The Monday Club’, who meet each Monday morning to work through the list of tasks required to enable activity at the club.

Meet Hugh McLean and the Monday Club.

Over the next week we hope you can meet more of the recipients on our You Tube Channel with a different recipient of an Impact Award each day to celebrate and be inspired.

Nominations will remain open throughout the year and the RYA Scotland team will review and follow up wherever possible to find out more about the differences made on the people, places and communities impacted.

The RYA Scotland Impact Awards aim to recognise that value of those people over the coming season and remain open for nominations at any time, being reviewed on a monthly basis. Hopefully we might get to come out and meet you soon!

And if you have found time to recognise some peoples fantastic acheivements then there are also several other awards for individuals and clubs including the RYA Club of The Year, RYA Volunteer of the Year and the sportscotland Coaching and Volunteering awards
