Sailors get ready to set sail in the virtual oceans for the Olympic Esports Series

World Sailing and Virtual Regatta have collaborated to host the 2023 Olympic Esports Series once again. Absolutely anyone can get involved from around the world. This is the chance for you to sign up and compete against the elite and attempt to become an Olympic Esports Series champion! 

The competition spans two categories. Players can sign up to compete in the series in either a 30-day Offshore endurance race or choose to race in the inshore category that will be featuring multiple classes. 

Compete in the Olympic Esports Series 2023

The Olympic Esports Series (OES) is a global virtual competition created by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) International Federations and game publishers that have developed Esports platforms for competitors to play on. Online sailing competitions have exploded in popularity over the last couple of years, with Virtual Regatta now reaching over one million players each year.

Played by individuals, amateur sailors, club racers and sailing club groups alike, e-sailing arguably brings added-value to the sport in a different dimension and is a great way to virtually strategise your sailing skills, refine race tactics and have fun competing online. 

Race around the word in the offshore category 

Players will be navigating the world’s virtual oceans in one of the sport’s fastest sailing classes Ultime. The race will be starting and finishing in Singapore, where excitingly will be where the Olympic Esports Series live finals will take place! 

Registration for the Offshore category is now open and participants can sign up here. The 30-day race will take place from 31 March until 2 May 2023

Compete to be top of the class in the inshore competition

The inshore has eight qualifier events that commence on 17 March and finishes on 8 May 2023. The features classes will be the 49er, ILCA’s and Nacra 17. The top player from each of the qualifier finals will advance to the live finals, held during the Olympic Esports Week in Singapore. There they will be joined by the top male player and top female player with the highest ranking throughout the qualifiers.

Live final 

The live final will be held from 22 to 25 June as part of the Olympic Esports Week 2023 where the top three players from the offshore category will be awarded with their trophies. The live final in Singapore will be available to watch wherever you are, through and on social media channels. 

How to participate

The first-ever Olympic virtual series, which took place online in 2021, attracted more than 250,000 contenders from more than 100 countries, to play a range of online sports including rowing and sailing.
