RCD Guidelines

The second edition of the RCD Application Guide of Directive 2013/53/EU on the harmonisation of the law of the Member States relating to Recreational Craft and Personal Watercraft, has now been published. The RCD Application Guide is not law, but helps manufacturers on how to interpret the regulations, clarifying grey areas and definitions.

There have been a few changes that have been made to this edition to update the previous version of the RCD application guide, which include the following items:

  • Modifications of guidance on hydrofoils, model year, durability criteria (relating to outboard (OB) compression ignition (CI) marine engines), maximum recommended load, canoes and kayaks, provisions of Art. 38.4 of the RCD, and provisions of the non-road mobile machinery legislation applicable to the RCD. The modifications were approved by the RCD Expert Group.
  • Update of relevant harmonised standards.
  • Inclusion of a table of contents.

If you export to the EU, British Marine suggests that you download and take the time to look over the changes that have been stated above; especially if any of the updates will affect your business and the products that your business produces.
