Further education provider South Devon College is currently working with stakeholders to develop a Foundation degree focusing on maritime leadership, which will help to further close the skills gap in the maritime sector.
The course is designed with employers’ needs in mind. Its primary objective is to develop students’ underpinning knowledge and skills for employment in the wider maritime industry, preparing them to work at sea on small commercial vessels or for a management role ashore.
South Devon College is looking to engage with employers and other stakeholders in this space, to start a conversation on whether graduates of this course would be valuable to the industry as potential employees. It also wants to consult on proposed course content and ensure that employers feel the syllabus is of value to their businesses.
