With young people already making their mark on recreational opportunities on the inland waterways, rivers, creeks, inlets, harbours and coastlines, the new awards scheme celebrates youth participation in maritime activities.
In partnership with organisations and schools, the Awards will spread awareness of pastimes and careers, and amplify information about water safety and care for the natural environment. The Lord-Lieutenants of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk (Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst, Lady Dannatt and Clare Countess of Euston) have kindly agreed to become Patrons of the Awards. Olympic gold medallist Saskia Clark MBE from West Mersea is a Champion of the Awards.
Any young person who has made a positive contribution to the water environment is eligible to be considered within the four award categories of: Resilience; Proficiency; Water Safety and Conservation. The Awards will recognise their achievements and contributions and nominations are welcomed.
