Wellness Over Waves (WOW) is a non-profit group that has been formed with the sole purpose of working with people of any age group, who may have suffered or endured a traumatic life experience. They are dedicated to the wellbeing of individuals, to help them achieve levels of discipline to grow in self-confidence, self-belief and self-worth.
WOW does this by providing a platform for them to gain skills and experience by restoring and sailing historic vessels. The SY Windsong has been donated to WOW by her owner Mr Michael Duddridge OBE, with the intention to become the main project vessel over the next six months for the WOW programmes. SY Windsong is one of the only remaining sailing vessels that took part in the operation Dynamo during WWII.https://www.adls.org.uk/windsong
To help restore SY Windsong and in turn, support vulnerable people, WOW is seeking donations and requires the following:
- Deck fastenings
- VHS
- Instruments
- EPIRB
- MOB
- Waste and Water Tanks
- Electrical Wiring
- Sails and Rigging
- LED Lighting
- Charger / Inverter
- Seasoned Timber
- Winches
- Windlass
- Chain
- Pumps
Donations come in many forms and what we have found with companies is even if it’s not possible for them to donate a brand-new product, they have been able to donate to our products that may be last year’s line, something that has been repaired or perhaps something that a customer had updated when their system had nothing wrong and wasn’t very old.
In return for any of the above, we are more than happy to advertise your services to us and others on both our website and on a particular part of the vessel/vessels so that it is clear who donated our systems.
We are extremely excited with the positive and generous support we have received from all parties to date and can confirm that we have secured the support of the Littlehampton Port Authority as the future home of SY Windsong.
Future plans
Once the restoration is completed, we will sail SY Windsong from Cyprus to Littlehampton to arrive by the end of July where she will arrive at the Littlehampton Waterfront Festival on 14 August 2022. She will be open to welcoming visitors throughout the festival. We would like to express our gratitude to all the suppliers that have already committed to assisting us with credit notes in their specific area of expertise and products.
If you are able to support WOW with materials or credit notes for one or any of the listed products and solutions or if you know of any companies that may be able to help, please feel free to directly contact Fiona Nicholas at Fiona@wowfoundation.org.
