Have you ever been in a situation where you have wanted to challenge someone’s behaviour – but you didn’t know how or what to say?
Members of the RYA community are invited to attend a short online Active Bystander training session which aims to challenge microaggressions, harmful comments and behaviours. The session includes self-coaching techniques to help you keep a cool head when you’re faced with a challenging situation, and assertive language devices which you can use to make sure your voice is heard if you want to raise a concern. By working together we can create a safe and supportive environment within our sport and recreational community.
The training will cover a range of topics, including:
- Being comfortable whilst challenging uncomfortable behaviour
- Knowing when it’s appropriate to step in and challenge microaggressions, discrimination or bullying
As part of the RYA’s commitment of creating a culture which encourages equality and diversity, as a sports community, we need to learn different varieties of allyship and champion the need for everyone to feel that they belong. We recognise the importance of empowering our community to feel confident at being champions of facilitating belonging and creating truly inclusive cultures.
