We featured Tracey Boyne, owner of Mylor Sailing School/Mylor Sailability, during Steering the Course 2021. She’s still full of drive and determination, and now we’ve got an update, so we’re featuring her again!
After a slew of very rigorous assessments that include a visit from a mystery shopper, Mylor Sailability has won Gold in both the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award and the Learning Experience of the Year 2021/22 in the Cornwall Tourism Awards, and was crowned Winner of Winners too, as in 2019/20 – the only organisation that has ever done that twice. Then the business won Gold in the same two categories in the SW Tourism Awards. And in April, Tracey was told they’re now finalists in both categories in the national Visit England awards, so they’re guaranteed at least bronze in both categories when the winners are announced in Birmingham in June.
One of the judges commented: “It is clear this is not just a sailing school, it is a movement. The business’ ability to grow, develop and help support people throughout the most challenging years is testament to their focus on people and their passion and knowledge on what being on the water does for all. It’s hard to know how to improve on such a great organisation and offering.”
And if all that wasn’t enough, Mylor Sailability has also won silver in the 2021/22 Green Tourism Awards!
“Where do we go from here? We’ve won everything!” laughs Tracey. “We’ll take a break now, because it’s important for us to focus on developing Mylor Sailability further. I have just applied for funding to increase the number of private sessions we can offer for racing teams, group tuition for people with specific conditions such as Parkinson’s, and our Good Day Promise project that offers free sessions for the terminally ill and their loved ones. All these awards help enormously with our fundraising bids.”
