The UK has announced that it has secured a resolution with the US on the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminium. The US will replace the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminium with tariff rate quotas, and fully remove the Section 232 tariffs on derivative articles.
In response, vessels imported from the US will no longer be subject to additional tariffs on import to the UK.
The announcement follows extensive engagement between British Marine and the Department for International Trade on the additional tariffs for US vessels.
Currently, imports of US vessels are subject to a 25 percent retaliatory tariff.
We understand the removal of these additional tariffs will take effect from 1 June 2022 as legislation is required to pass in order to make this a reality.
