Welcome OnBoard London Watersports Company

OnBoard is the national grassroots scheme making it easier and cheaper to get more young people on the water. It gives anyone aged 8-18 the chance to learn to sail or windsurf by providing low cost opportunities for schools, youth groups and families to have fun afloat.

Stuart Philbey, co-director of London Watersports Company, says: “We are thrilled to be accepted into the RYA Onboard scheme. We joined the scheme because we wanted to utilise it and the resources available to help promote sailing and windsurfing within the local community of the London Borough of Waltham Forest and Enfield.”

“We have a number of activities including RYA stage courses taking place at weekends and during the school holidays. We are also working in partnership with King George Sailing Club on their youth sailing Saturday sessions.”

Hannah Cockle, RYA OnBoard Operations Officer, comments; “It’s great to welcome the London Watersports Company to the OnBoard programme. Getting out on the water has a huge amount of benefits which go way beyond just learning a new skill. We look forward to working with them and the local community in the future.”

Launched in 2005, OnBoard has helped introduce nearly 1,000,000 young people across the country to sailing and windsurfing. It isn’t about producing champions, although many youngsters do go on to excel in dinghy and windsurf racing, it is about local youngsters discovering what an exciting, challenging, sociable or simply relaxing outdoor activity sailing can be.

London Watersports Company is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and now an RYA OnBoard Centre..
