With thanks to Diana Thompson for the report.
Anna Edmonds, Vanessa Hutchison and Thomas Irvine were presented with their certificates by Diana Thompson, CMYC’s Junior Racing Advisor at the club’s annual awards evening. Since then they have used the funds to take advantage of race training, an RYA Level 3 course and have almost completed their Assistant Instructor’s course.
They recently sailed for CMYC at the National Schools Sailing Association National Regatta at Draycote Sailing Club.
In September they will again represent their club at the West Sussex Annual Regatta at Itchenor Sailing Club, and the winter will see them all taking advantage of more race training.
They are all currently helping with CMYC’s Junior Saturday Clubs and will also be assisting at its annual Junior Helm Week.
The Youth Training Fund bursaries are intended to offer modest financial support to promising young sailors to help them with their ongoing efforts to fulfil their recognised potential. In return, recipients pass on their experience and enthusiasm to help inspire others through their club and regional training events.
Dave Ellis, Chairman of the Youth Training Fund, says: “It’s fantastic for young sailors to be able to experience a range of opportunities, both in the UK and internationally, during their development as they learn so much. But the costs of travel, accommodation, food etc. all quickly mount up and the bursaries provide some assistance to our young sailors as they develop their sailing careers.
“We have an abundance of talent in the region and we want to give our young sailors, whether destined for ‘podiums’ or as coaches, the best chance to realise their ambitions.”
CMYC is an RYA Recognised Training Centre, OnBoard Centre, and British Youth Sailing Recognised Club.
