An update from our Sailing Development Officer Ben Kimbell

Ben writes:

In May I ran successful evening workshops at Hastings and St Leonard’s SC, Worthing SC and Tamesis Club.

These were attended by around 15 local clubs and focused on retaining volunteers and the succession planning of key club roles. The succession part of the workshops was definitely the most popular.

The Onboard instructor training days are still running and being delivered by the OnBoard tutor regional team Ross Malloy, Kat Banks and Freddie Lovejoy, who have done a fantastic job visiting what will be a total of five Onboard venues across the region with aims to upskill the instructors who are delivering the OnBoard scheme.

The days focus on familiarising all instructors with all the OnBoard resources and looking at how to improve all on water activity for OnBoard sessions.

Venues are:

  • Whitstable Yacht Club
  • Phoenix Canoe Club
  • Pevensey Bay Sailing Club
  • Danson Watersports
  • Rye Watersports

OnBoard is the RYA’s children’s sailing and windsurfing programme. It offers children the opportunity to try watersports through their local club or centre in a safe, fun and structured environment.
